Malawi - Learn How To Get
Involved...
MAKING COMMUNITY
CONNECTIONS.... locally and globally
Why do some have
so much when others have so little?
We are so fortunate. Our
definition of "needy" or "less
fortunate" pales in comparison to
what is happening in the area of Nkhoma,
Malawi, where this school house is located.
Africa
is huge. The problems seem even bigger.
The devastation might seem insurmountable
to some. But if we break it down... one
village... one family... one individual
at a time, suddenly it seems we can do
something.
This message is not about
the church, it's not about World Vision,
it's not about you or me or them. It's
about us. It's about community. It's about
people coming together to help people
because they need us and because we can.
It's simple really.
The picture of the school
house you see is located in the village
of Nkhoma, Malawi, Africa. This is a deeply
impoverished area. The second poorest
in the world in fact. Over 400 school
aged childred attend class in this grass
hut school. There is one teacher, one
large chalkboard and no clean water available.
But the children attend every day because
they want to learn. They want to have
a better life. When a group of people
from our community heard this story, we
knew we had to find a way to help. People
from churches, from schools, from our
neighborhoods, from our own families,
got together and said "let's do something
for them". There is much that they
need, but here is how we started.....
We held a back to school
supplies donation drive.
Tesoro High School and Las
Flores Middle School students contributed
school basics which are going to be delivered
to these very children in this schoolhouse,
thanks to World Vision's offer to ship!
Tijeras Creek Elementary,
together with Las Flores held a coin drive
for the school children and together we
raised $1,200 in change donations! The
money will be used to purchase 20 bicycles
for teachers in Malawi along with a few
teaching supplies. Currently, they must
walk miles to reach the children.
Mountain View Church is participating
in a child sponsorship campaign for the
children in this region. Child sponsorship
is a wonderful way to make a lasting difference
in the life of a child. You will have
the opportunity to exchange letters with
your sponsored child and let them know
there are people who care about them.

There are many ways our community
can get involved! The opportunities are
limitless and bottomless, just as the
need is in Africa.
Please let us know if you
would like to learn more about our upcoming
projects. We are just beginning to put
together some outreach opportunities.
If we work together, our community can
truly change an entire village who would
otherwise be forgotton.
Friends, neighbors, businesses,
schools, churches, service organizations.....
please join us! Together we can do so
much.
